Berner Foods receives Governor's Export Award

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Berner Cheese Corporation received the Illinois Department of Agriculture Export Award from Governor Ryan on May 11, 2000 at the Governor's Mansion in Springfield. The award was presented to Berner Cheese Corporation President Stephen Kneubuehl and Vice President Edward Kneubuehl.
The award is the result of two years of focus on international trade. Berner Cheese Corporation has attended 4 international trade shows in the last year, which have resulted in products being shipped to Argentina, Japan, England, Russia and Mexico. It is anticipated that Berner Cheese will increase its export sales volume by 500% within the next year.
Located in Stephenson County, IL, Berner Cheese currently operates two manufacturing facilities. Approximately 1 million pounds of milk per day are used in its production of natural cheese. A second plant produces processed cheese products. A third facility is currently under construction and is expected to be one of the largest soy milk operations in the country.
Berner Cheese, with sales in excess of $60 million, has long been known in the cheese industry for its natural division, which produces Alpine Lace Swiss by contract for Land O' Lakes and for its processed cheese division, which is the leading private label manufacturer for both glass jars and aerosol cheese products. Berner also operates a third facility in Stephenson County that processes cheese whey into whey protein concentrate used as a food ingredient and dairy calcium used in food supplements.
